HVAC Services in Bowmanville — Heating, Cooling & Indoor Comfort

Your heating and cooling system is not something you think about until it stops working. The furnace that kept your home at 21 degrees all winter suddenly will not ignite. The air conditioner that handled last July without a problem is now blowing warm air. Or maybe nothing is broken yet, but your energy bills keep climbing and you are wondering whether your 20-year-old system is costing you more to run than it would cost to replace.

Whatever brought you here, this page covers everything Comfort Shop handles under the HVAC umbrella — from emergency furnace repair to full system replacement, air conditioning, heat pumps, indoor air quality, and ongoing maintenance. We are a family-owned HVAC company with over 35 years of experience serving Bowmanville, and a team of TSSA-licensed technicians who show up on time, quote upfront, and do clean work.

If you already know what you need, call us at 905-623-2956. If you want to understand your options first, keep reading.

Whether you need an affordable furnace from Continental (a Canadian made furnace brand) or a premium Lennox system, we size every installation to your home and provide a fixed written quote.

Heating Systems — Furnace Installation, Repair & Maintenance

Heating is the backbone of home comfort in Ontario. From November through March, your furnace runs almost constantly, and when it fails, the consequences are immediate. Pipes can freeze. Your family is uncomfortable. And every hour without heat in a cold snap feels longer than the last.

We install, repair, and maintain gas furnaces, propane furnaces, electric furnaces, boilers, and radiant heating systems. Here is how we approach each situation.

Furnace repair. If your furnace is not igniting, short cycling, blowing cold air, or making unusual noises, we can usually diagnose and repair the issue same day. We carry common parts on our trucks and provide an upfront price before any work begins. If the repair does not make financial sense given the age and condition of the unit, we will tell you that directly and walk through your replacement options.

Furnace installation and replacement. When it is time for a new furnace, the goal is not just to install a unit — it is to match the right system to your home. That means considering the size of the house, insulation levels, ductwork condition, and your budget. A furnace that is too large for the space will short cycle and wear out faster. One that is too small will run constantly and never reach temperature. We size it properly, install it cleanly, and make sure the system is running efficiently before we leave.

As an authorized Lennox dealer, we offer a Good, Better, and Best furnace lineup ranging from the ML296 (96% AFUE, single-stage) up to the SLP99V (98.2% AFUE, modulating, variable speed). Each tier is designed to match a different balance of efficiency, features, and budget. All come with a 10-year parts warranty and a Limited Lifetime Warranty on heat exchangers when registered with Lennox. Visit our Lennox page for the full model-by-model comparison, or call us at 905-623-2956 and we will help you figure out which tier makes sense for your home.

Boilers and radiant heat. Older homes in the Durham Region often run on boiler systems with radiators or in-floor radiant heat. These systems require technicians who understand hydronic heating, not just forced air. We service and replace boilers, and if you are considering switching from a boiler to a furnace (or vice versa), we can advise on what makes sense for your home. For more on boiler and tankless water heater options, we have a dedicated page.

Maintenance. A furnace that gets annual maintenance runs more efficiently, lasts longer, and is far less likely to fail on the coldest night of the year. We offer structured maintenance plans — more on those below.

Air Conditioning — Central AC & Ductless Mini-Split Systems

Lennox central air conditioning unit installed outside a residential property in Durham Region

Bowmanville summers are not as extreme as the winters, but the humidity makes a bigger difference than most people expect. A properly sized and maintained air conditioning system is not a luxury — it is what keeps your home livable in July and August.

Central air conditioning. We install, repair, and maintain central AC systems. If your current unit is struggling to keep up, running constantly, or driving your electricity bill higher than it should be, a service call can identify whether you need a repair, a refrigerant top-up, or a conversation about upgrading to a more efficient unit. Most AC repairs are completed same day.

Our Lennox air conditioner lineup follows the same Good, Better, Best structure, ranging from the 14ACX (Merit Series, up to 16 SEER) to the SL18XC1 (the quietest single-stage AC Lennox makes, at just 65 dB, with iComfort smart thermostat compatibility). All carry a 10-year parts warranty when registered. The full AC model comparison is on our Lennox page.

We also install Friedrich Wallmaster air conditioners for through-the-wall installations in homes and commercial spaces that need a non-ducted solution.

Ductless mini-split systems. Not every home has ductwork, and not every room needs to be on the central system. Ductless mini-splits are an efficient way to add heating and cooling to specific areas — a finished basement, a garage conversion, an addition, or an older home without ducts. We install Mitsubishi Electric Mr. Slim mini-split systems, which are among the most reliable and efficient on the market.

When to replace your AC. If your air conditioner is over 12 to 15 years old, uses R-22 refrigerant (which is being phased out), or needs a repair that costs more than a third of a new unit, replacement is usually the better financial decision. We will give you the numbers and let you decide.

Heat Pumps & Geothermal Systems

Heat pumps are one of the fastest-growing HVAC categories in Ontario, and for good reason. A heat pump heats your home in winter and cools it in summer using a single outdoor unit — and it does both more efficiently than a traditional furnace and AC combination.

We install and service Lennox air-source heat pumps, Mitsubishi Mr. Slim ductless heat pumps, Zobo-Central heat pumps, hybrid heat pump systems (which pair a heat pump with a gas furnace for the coldest days), and geothermal systems for homeowners who want the highest possible efficiency.

Heat pumps are a strong fit for homeowners who want to reduce natural gas usage, lower their carbon footprint, take advantage of available rebates, or replace both a furnace and AC with one system. They are not the right choice for every home, and we will tell you if your situation favours a different approach.

Indoor Air Quality

Heating and cooling are only part of indoor comfort. The air quality inside your home affects allergies, respiratory health, sleep quality, and overall wellbeing — and most homes have room to improve.

We install and service:

Lennox PureAir whole-home air purification systems

Clean the air circulating through your HVAC system, removing airborne particles, allergens, chemical vapours, and odours at the source.

HEPA air filtration systems

Capture allergens, dust, pet dander, and fine particles that standard furnace filters miss.

Whole-home humidifiers

Maintain proper humidity levels during Ontario's dry winter months. Low humidity causes dry skin, irritated airways, static electricity, and can even damage hardwood floors and furniture.

Carbon monoxide alarms

Placed strategically throughout the home. CO is odourless and colourless, and every home with a gas furnace, boiler, or water heater needs proper detection.

These are not upsells. They are practical improvements that make a real difference in how your home feels, especially for families with young children, seniors, or anyone with asthma or allergies.

Maintenance Plans That Prevent Breakdowns

The best time to find out your furnace has a failing ignitor or your AC has a slow refrigerant leak is during a scheduled maintenance visit — not at 2 am on the coldest night of the year or during a July heat warning.

We offer two maintenance plans designed to keep your system running efficiently and catch problems before they turn into emergencies.

Comfort Care Maintenance Plan

This includes an annual furnace check-up and AC tune-up. Our technicians inspect the system, clean critical components, check for wear, test safety controls, and flag anything that needs attention. It is the single most effective thing you can do to extend the life of your HVAC equipment and keep your energy bills in check. Homeowners across Whitby, Oshawa, and the broader Clarington area rely on this plan to stay ahead of seasonal breakdowns.

Protection Plus HVAC Coverage

This goes beyond basic maintenance. It includes parts and labour coverage on repairs, discounts on additional services, and priority scheduling — meaning you go to the front of the line when you need a service call. If you want the peace of mind that comes with knowing your HVAC system is fully covered, this is the plan to ask about.

Call us at 905-623-2956 to learn which plan fits your home.

Brands We Install and Service

We are not tied to a single manufacturer. We work with a range of leading HVAC brands so we can recommend the right equipment for your home, your budget, and your priorities — not just whatever brand we happen to carry.

Brands we install and service include:

we are an authorized Lennox dealer, carrying their full residential lineup of furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps with Good, Better, and Best options across categories

a trusted Canadian brand with a strong lineup of boilers and heating products

Navien

high-efficiency tankless water heaters and condensing boiler systems

IBC

Friedrich

If your home has a specific brand installed, we can service it. If you are choosing a new system and want to compare options, call us and we will walk through the differences.

Financing Your HVAC System

A new furnace, AC, or heat pump is a significant investment. We understand that not every homeowner wants to pay the full amount upfront, and we do not think cost should prevent you from getting a system that keeps your home comfortable and your energy bills manageable.

We offer financing through SNAP Home Finance, which provides low-interest monthly payments on qualifying HVAC installations. You can get the system your home needs now and spread the cost over a manageable term.

Ask us about financing options when you call for a quote.

Beyond heating and cooling, we install gas fireplaces and provide gas fireplace repair, install Amaircare HEPA filter systems for indoor air quality, and offer ongoing furnace maintenance and air conditioner maintenance programs. Ductless air conditioners and ductless heat pumps are available for homes without existing ductwork. We carry Canadian made furnaces and Canadian made air conditioners from Continental alongside Lennox equipment at multiple price points. For local HVAC Bowmanville homeowners, we are the closest full-service provider in the region. We also serve Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle, Oshawa, Whitby, Port Perry, Lindsay, Bethany, Cavan, and Peterborough.
