Millbrook was founded in 1816 when John Deyell, an Irish immigrant, constructed the area's first saw mill on a stream that provided power for machinery. By the 1880s, the village had grown to approximately 1,700 inhabitants before losing nearly half its population to Manitoba and Western Canada with the extension of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It has taken almost a century for Millbrook to recover its original population.
